In the workshop “Compliant Mechanisms + AI: From a Flexible Part to a Product,” Francisco Mendes and Pedro Magalhães, co-founders of MAKE IT product R&D, demonstrate how to leverage these solutions in product development. Compliant Mechanisms: Mechanisms that use the elastic deformation of parts to transmit force and motion. Participants will be able to: - View and handle examples of hinges printed as a single piece. - Follow a design demonstration, from CAD to the use of AI, to explore flexible geometries. - Watch the 3D printing of a prototype during the session, following the process from design to physical part.

Going global is a very important step for new businesses! Going global is more than just “selling abroad” and finding customers in other countries. In this workshop, we’ll explore how to identify markets with potential, understand where the demand lies, and devise an appropriate entry strategy—even when resources are limited. We’ll discuss partners and first international customers, using practical examples and some of the lessons learned by those who have already gone through this process. By the end, participants will have a clearer picture of the steps needed to transform a local product into a solution with global ambitions, as well as the main pitfalls to avoid along the way.

No investors, no network, no big-city address. Just two founders in Viseu and a conviction that AI in production was missing its foundation. Then the doors opened, one after another: NVIDIA Inception, Cloudflare for Startups, Atlassian for Startups, OVHcloud Startup Program, Startup Portugal, signatories of the EU AI Pact alongside Europe's largest technology companies, and next, the Web Summit. We applied cold. Every single one said yes. There was no trick. They said yes because what we built solves a problem that matters, and we knew how to say it. This workshop is about that: how to find the problem worth solving, how to shape a value proposition strong enough that the world's biggest players want you in the room, and why where you build from stops mattering the moment what you build is real. If you're building something ambitious from a place the startup world has written off, this is the hour that changes what you think is possible.
