Biography
José Sobral is a Professor at ISEL - Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management, since 2005. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, awarded jointly by ISEL and FEUP, combining a solid academic career with a distinguished record in professional associations related to maintenance and mechanical engineering.
In recent years, he has taken on significant leadership roles: he served as President of the Board of Directors of APMI - Portuguese Association for Maintenance and Asset Management (2018-2023), and currently holds the position of Chairman of the General Assembly of the same association, since 2025. Within the Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portuguese Order of Engineers), he served as Coordinator of the Regional Council of the Mechanical Engineering College for the Southern Region (2022-2025) and has been, since 2025, a Board Member of the National Mechanical Engineering College, elected by the Southern Region. This trajectory reflects a continuous and recognized involvement both in training new engineers and in representing and regulating the profession at a national level.
